Sweet Chilli tofu is one of those dishes whose aroma and flavor would transport you to an Asian restaurant from the comfort of your home. Baked tofu stir fried and coated with a sweet yet spicy sauce is a feast to your eyes as well as the palate! Serve it as an appetizer or with your favorite noodles or vegetable fried rice for a complete meal.

Prep the tofu by removing excess moisture with paper towels and by placing a heavy pan on top. You can skip this step if you are using the High protein firm tofu from Trader Joe's.

The recipe doesn't call for any special ingredients, and its simplicity will leave you surprised. I have baked the tofu to keep it healthy, but you can always sauté the tofu in a pan with a little bit of sesame oil.

RECIPE

Serves 4 people Ready in 40 min

Ingredients

1 tbsp Sesame oil or any oil of choice

1 large Onion sliced

1 bunch of Spring Onions

1 inch Ginger chopped

4 cloves of Garlic chopped

2 Bell Peppers sliced

2 blocks Firm Tofu ( Bake or Sauté )

2 tbsp Corn starch

Salt and pepper to taste

Garnish with herbs

Sweet Chilli sauce

1/2 tbsp Corn starch

1 tbsp Sesame oil or any oil of choice

2 tsp Sriracha sauce

2 tbsp Soy sauce

2 tbsp Maple Syrup

2 tsp Sugar of choice

Preparation

1. Baked Tofu: Preheat oven to 400F. Remove excess moisture with paper towels as much as possible. Cut tofu into cubes. Marinate tofu cubes in oil, salt and pepper and coat with a layer of corn starch and let it rest for a couple of minutes. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the tofu and bake for 25 min.

2. Heat oil in a pan, once hot add in the chopped ginger and garlic and stir fry until fragrant.

3. It’s time to add the onions and spring onions and sauté until golden brown. Add a bit of salt. It will help onions to cook faster.

4. Add in the bell peppers and sauté until tender. Make sure the crispness is still retained.

5. Take a small bowl and mix all the ingredients for the sauce.

6. Once tofu is baked add it to the pan along with the sauce and stir fry for a few minutes until the tofu is well coated, and the sauce thickens.

7. Check for salt and season as required.

8. Garnish with spring onions and sesame seeds.
