Date shake was invented in the1930s by a California date farmer, and contained dates, milk and ice cream. This is a healthy version of the date shake. Made with simple natural ingredients like Dates, Milk, Cashews and Almonds. No added sugars. The subtle sweetness is from the dates. I have used the #medjool variety in this recipe.

Dates have proven health benefits. They are high in several nutrients, fiber and antioxidants, all of which may provide health benefits ranging from improved digestion to a reduced risk of disease.

Ingredients

2 cups Whole milk

4 Dates

1/4 cup Almonds

1/4 cup Cashews

Preparation

1. Soak the dates and nuts in a cup for milk for 20 minutes, if you are using a blender that is not high powered. You can skip this step if you are using a high powered blender like #Blentec or #VitaMix. I use a #blentec and run the Smoothie setting twice for a smooth finish.

2. Blend the ingredients together into a smooth shake. Add a couple of ice cubes while bending if you prefer it chilled.

3. Ready to be served.

Tips

Best served chilled, so add the ice cubes. It can be made ahead of time and refrigerated. Serve with a bowl of fruit for a lite and healthy meal.
